NDWA Gig Worker Advocates

Dignity and Respect for Domestic Workers in the Gig Economy

Gig economy jobs should be good jobs.

NDWA Gig Worker Advocates is an independent entity that negotiates with gig economy companies to make work better in the gig economy.

Domestic workers in the gig economy face unique issues. Their work is impacted by algorithms, rating systems, and employers. Their pay can be adjusted by a software engineer they’ll never meet, and they have no-one to negotiate rates with. When they are classified as 1099 they do not get access to the basic protections that are granted to employees.

NDWA Gig Worker Advocates negotiates with gig economy companies on behalf of workers because finding solutions becomes much more complicated when employers are replaced by software and clients become customers. Learn more about us.

“It used to be that we would negotiate directly with our customers. Today, gig companies and their algorithms determine which jobs are available and how much we get paid. That’s a lot of power that should be shared with us.”
